Sumit Verma

Sumit Verma is the Co-Founder and CTO of Responsible AI Labs (RAIL), where he leads the development of the RAIL Score; a framework that measures large language models across eight ethical dimensions such as fairness, safety, and transparency. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, he previously worked at Rakuten, Mercari, and Flipkart, and also heads AI Engineering at OpenSense Labs. His work bridges AI research and ethics, aiming to make responsible AI measurable and enforceable in real systems. He co-authored the paper “RAIL in the Wild: Operationalizing Responsible AI Evaluation Using Anthropic’s Value Dataset” (2025) and frequently writes about the moral limits of AI deployment in high-impact domains.
